Research interests: Design and development of video games and interactive virtual, augmented and mixed reality environments.
Giorgos Loukakis is a Researcher and member of the UX Research Team of Niantic Inc. In January 2021, he concluded his second postdoctoral thesis entitled “Use of game engines in the design and implementation of Mount Olympus in a virtual reality environment”, which was supported through scholarship by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Since 2011, he has participated in research projects related to the digital landscape, the design and development of video games and VR/AR applications, as a member of the research team of the Laboratory of Environmental Communication and Audiovisual Documentation (LECAD).
In the past, he has taught the courses “Architecture and Development of Video Games” at the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications (UTH), “Special Topics of Representation: Digital Landscapes” and “Architecture and Video Games” (adjunct) at the Department of Architecture (UTH). Furthermore, he has taught the use of game engines in Architectural Composition workshops.
