Research Interests: Sculpture, research methodology in visual arts, artistic practices in public space, arts and law.
Maria Papanikolaou is a visual artist based in Athens. She studied law at the University of Athens and sculpture at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Netherlands. In 2011 she graduated from the Master of Fine Arts program at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) and in 2022 she received her doctoral degree at the same school with the support of the Onassis Foundation, the A. G. Leventis Foundation and the Foundation for Education and European Culture. During the academic year 2016-2017, she conducted research in New York City as a Fulbright visiting scholar. Currently, she works as a teaching assistant at the Department of Culture and Creative Media and Industries (University of Thessaly) and continues to teach at Master of Fine Arts program (ASFA), where she is also conducting a postdoctoral research.
