Visual and Audiovisual Arts, Design and Spatial Studies

Visual and Audiovisual Arts, Design and Spatial Studies
This area of study spans a wide range of visual art practices and creative media, focusing on the development of a skillset for designing and producing original artistic and design-based work. It emphasizes the cultivation of both creative and technical abilities across diverse fields, including painting, sculpture, photography, image and sound production and editing (such as filmmaking, video art, animation), and spatial design.
Through hands-on studio training supported by relevant theoretical frameworks, students engage with a variety of image-making and design techniques, modes of representation, object-making, audiovisual practices, artistic interventions in public space, and socially engaged art forms. They become familiar with a wide range of artistic and design approaches, understanding creative initiative as a form of critical and analytical thinking. The program also fosters critical awareness of production and post-production processes, encouraging the development of original work within a reflective framework. Artistic research projects and training in applied artistic practice are central to the curriculum.
The program supports artistic development and creativity by emphasizing both skill-building and the cultivation of critical tools for understanding creation, production, and current developments in the field. At the heart of the educational approach is a reflection on the challenges faced by creative individuals and cultural workers today, particularly regarding the role of artistic practice in relation to the complex realities of the contemporary world and its relevance within broader social processes.
