Performance Studies and Writing

This field introduces students to the broad concept of performance: from the arts (dance, theater, visual arts, poetry, music, etc.) and sports, to religious and secular rituals, social interactions, and the diverse expressions of performance and writing. The interdisciplinary field of Performance Studies and Writing is closely connected to related areas in the social sciences, highlighting performance and writing both as subjects of scholarly inquiry and as analytical and creative tools.

Students engage in the intersections of theory and practice, exploring the multifaceted encounters between performance and writing across a range of academic and social contexts. These include the search for ritual elements in performative arts, identity and cultural performances, the relationship between performance and activism, hybrid performances by displaced subjects, community-based artistic practices, site-specific and digital performance.

Theoretical and historical training in artistic performance and writing is combined with practical exercises and the creation of original work, allowing students to develop both critical understanding and creative expression.
