Sokratis Kioussis is a museologist. His thesis discusses museum representation and offers a genealogy of the museum. Considering the history and practices of European tradition, it aims to unveil a museological schema that brings together aspects that have been treated as opposed categories by museums (“Nature” and “Culture” in Greek contemporary museum practice). Earning a scholarship from the Basil and Elise Gouladris Foundation, Sokratis completed his doctorate at the School of World Art and Museology under the guidance of John Mack (University of East Anglia, 2012). He holds a Masters in Theory of Art from the same school (MA, 2007). He read Biology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki where he obtained his first degree. His research interests vary, including museum theory, history of collecting, the birth of the museum as well as defining and integrating new curatorial discourses and practices. Sokratis teaches museology and curating. He has worked in the museum sector both as a curator and/or a researcher.
