The curriculum offers studio classes where participants become acquainted with design as a concept and a practice. These courses aim at the development of creative thinking through concepts the and materialization of a design project that draws on these concepts. The courses encompass a range of scales, from small practical objects to exhibition spaces and intangible projects (e.g., websites, branding). These courses review relevant theories and methods, from industrial and post-industrial contexts as well as an array of domains, ranging from the market to discussions concerning the environmental crisis. Students learn to analyze different objects that belong to different fields of social and material life (from architectural design, to urban landscapes and soundscapes). Students also come into contact with members of various related communities (artisans, private and public institutions and representatives from cultural industries) and they also develop their own creative skills in response to particular design requests. The courses thus build a connection between thinking and creative practice while shaping a critical stance toward the cultural industries.
